A small, friendly karaoke izakaya just 7 minutes' walk from Kanayama Station. Home-cooked Japanese food, karaoke for 200 yen a song, a kind master (Momo-chan) and "mama" behind the counter and regulars who welcome newcomers. A real slice of everyday Japan.
An izakaya is a Japanese pub where people share small dishes over drinks. A karaoke izakaya adds a microphone: you sing right at your table, in front of everyone, between bites. No private booths — just the whole room cheering you on. It's a very Japanese way to spend an evening, and you'll rarely find it anywhere else.
Take a seat at the counter or a table and order a drink.
Try mama's home cooking — the baked tomato & cheese is a favorite.
Pick a song and take the mic — ¥200 per song.
Or buy a 10-song ticket for ¥1,000. It never expires, so if you sing 5 songs or more, the ticket is the better deal. Nobody cares if you're in tune.
The table charge is just ¥500. Chuhai ¥460, snacks from ¥500. You can sing and drink without the high prices of a snack bar — friendly enough to drop by every night after work.
The master, Momo-chan, and "mama" greet first-timers and solo travelers with a warm smile.
The place used to be a teppanyaki restaurant, so griddle dishes are the stars. Dashimaki rolled omelette, negima and baked tomato & cheese are big hits with the regulars — and perfect with a drink.
Sit next to someone and you'll soon be chatting — and singing — together.
